Cór Mhaigh Eo, a mixed voice choir with 44 members, was established in 1994. Under the direction of Dr. Brian Lennon, the choir sings a wide repertoire of sacred and secular choral music ranging from the 16th century compositions of Byrd, de Victoria and Monteverdi right through to contemporary composers such as Whitacre, Lauridsen and Dubra. Beside a busy local schedule of performances at masses and concerts, the choir participates at International Choral Festivals with great success and also enjoys travelling and performing abroad, having visited Scotland, Latvia, Italy, Spain, Monaco and Portugal. The choir was part of the 120-strong Peace Choir in the Concert for Peace, Knock Basilica 2016 and also part of The Armed Man performance at the National Concert Hall in February of this year with the RTE Concert Orchestra, under the baton of David Brophy. On the 18th 2017 November the choir was back to the Knock Basilica for a performance of Handel’s ‘Messiah’. This time they were under the baton of maestro Proinnsias Ó Duinn. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra and a massed choir, 180 strong, performed to a rapt audience of 3,400. The choir hopes to travel this year to Italy.
