VISUAL ARTIST CALL OUT - ÉIST

Westport Town Hall in partnership with facilitator and theatre maker Mary-Lou McCarthy are developing a participatory piece about life in Westport Town in partnership with schoolchildren and older people, and culminating in a week of live performance.

We are hiring a freelance facilitator and visual artist to collaborate with as a core part of this project.  The artist will work on part-time basis in January 2023 to deliver play sessions based around making with young people aged 8-10, and will work alongside a team of performers to weave these made objects into stories seeded by older people from the local community.

We are open to a wide range of art forms and mediums, but it is essential that young people be able to play and experiment, so for example if you are a glass blower, you will need to explain what aspect of your work would be appropriate for and accessible to young people.

The fee for the project is €5000, to include preparation time, 6 days of workshops, and 12 days of creation/performance and stage design of the performance piece.  This does not include travel, materials, or access costs.  Provisional rehearsal and performance dates are 30th January to 11th February 2023.

To apply, please complete the short form below, and send your CV and portfolio to heathercrose@gmail.com.  Short-listed candidates will be selected for interview and offered a small fee to prepare a presentation of ideas for the project based on a brief.  Please note, we will be prioritising candidates based in the West, ideally close to Westport.

Deadline to apply is 11:30pm on Sunday 30 October.  Please feel free to contact producer Heather Rose on heathercrose@gmail.com with any questions.
