Westport Children’s Choir Christmas Concert 2017
Sunday, December 10th, 3pm
Tickets: €10 Adult, €7 Child, €30 Family of 4
Westport Children’s Choir’s Christmas concert is a fantastic opportunity in the darkest depths of winter to celebrate the pure voices of over 50 talented local children, singing a wide range of seasonal music from all over the world. This year’s program includes several carols from mediaeval France, a melancholic Spanish folk song, a famous American carol given an African twist, excursions into the world of Jazz and Musical Theatre, and not forgetting the Irish tradition and of course a number of old favourites.
Also appearing will be Westport Youth Choir, who will perform a more contemporary repertoire with songs from Pentatonix and Alt-J.
Westport Children’s Choir benefits from the wonderful accompaniment of Ausra Kvietkute on piano, and will be joined this year by special guests Pauline Graham on flute and recorder and Caoimhe Hopkinson on guitar.
Westport Children’s Choir was founded in 2011 under the direction of Eriko Hopkinson and now consists of a junior choir (aged 6 to 8)and a senior choir (aged 9 to 14), totalling 45 auditioned members. The choir traveled to the Young Bohemia Music Festival in Prague this March and received a Silver Award in the youth choir category. Currently the choir is preparing for a trip to Carnegie Hall in New York in June 2018, at which they have been invited to take part in the world premier of a specially commissioned piece for young voices by Venezuelan composer Christian Grases.
