Westport Children’s Choir comes to the Town Hall Theatre for their sixth Summer Concert on the 15th June 2017.
Founded in 2011, the choir presents the wonderful, pure voices of thirty five talented local children between the ages of six and fourteen, singing a diverse repertoire of music which ranges from the Baroque to contemporary to jazz and pop, and takes in the traditions of many different parts of the world.
The choir has won many awards in competition including Feis Ceoil, and travelled to the World Peace Choral Festival in Vienna (2015) to sing with the Vienna Boy’s Choir. This year they competed at the Young Bohemia Music Festival in Prague 2017 where they received a silver level award. In March 2016 they took part in “A Nation’s Voice” in Collins Barracks, Dublin, a national celebration of the centenary of the Easter Rising, where they performed alongside the RTE Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under conductor David Brophy.
In this concert Westport Children’s Choir will be performing a variety of songs from their broad repertoire including bluegrass music and Czech folk song, and also excerpts from the popular Tim Minchin musical “Matilda”. Also on the bill is classical cellist Patrick Dexter, and up and coming vocal group Westport Youth Choir.
Westport Children’s Choir is directed and conducted by Eriko Uehara Hopkinson
