Westport Town Hall welcomes Santa Clause!
Sunday, December 15th will see Westport immersed with the Christmas Spirit as the Octagon becomes the focal point for their annual FREE event – Spraoi Na Nollag. Organised by the creative team at Westport Town Hall with the support of the Westport Chamber and Mayo.ie, the theatre brings to life the joys of the festive season and our community spirit. Themed and decorated by the gifted and artistically-skilled Elsie Higgins, the space has been transformed with all the character of Christmas.
With the Crib and giant Christmas tree taking centre stage on The Octagon the whole area will be the venue for some great free entertainment on the day. Santa will be catching a lift with Paddy Joe Foy and his Clew Bay Jarvey from the Mall at 1pm and will then be transported in style to arrive at the Town Hall, led safely all the way with festive tunes provided by Westport Town Band. There will also be a fundraising bake-sale organised by Catherine Canny in aid of vital fresh water facilities for the Bolgatanga Region of Ghana.
Santa will then meet and greet children before inviting them into the auditorium for some free entertainment to include a brand new Marionette-style Puppet Show performance by Myrical Puppets, who are making their debut in Westport with a world-premiere Puppet show at 2pm and again at 3pm. Mrs Claus will also be on hand for some cosy storytelling sessions while Santy looks forward to meeting all the children with treats from Aunty Nelly’s Sweet shop! Seating for the puppet shows will be on a first come first serve basis with all the events free of charge.
To keep everyone in the Christmas spirit we are delighted to have Westport Town Hall’s own newly formed Adult Community Choir with us on the day to perform some carols under the direction of Catherine McGlinchey.
