Rick O’Shea, who read a book a week for an entire year should know what he’s talking about when it comes to bucket list books! Rick leads personalities Niall MacMonagle and Sally Rooney through their ‘must reads’. This should be very interesting indeed!
Rick has been a broadcaster with RTE since 2001, currently presenting weekdays 3-6pm on RTE Gold. He is a regular moderator, interviewer, curator and panellist at book festivals and literary events around the country. In 2014 he set up “The Rick O’Shea Book Club” on Facebook – it’s currently Ireland’s largest book club with over 10,000 members. Niall MacMonagle teacher, editor, broadcaster has published several anthologies including Real Cool, Outside In, The Open Door Book of Poetry, Slow Time, the Lifelines anthologies, TEXT – A Transition Year Reader and most recently the best-selling Windharp Poems of Ireland Since 1916 [Penguin 2015]. A regular contributor to RTE Radio 1, this year he is featuring Jane Austen’s novels on Today with Sean O’Rourke and he writes a weekly art column for the Sunday Independent. In September he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by UCD for his services to literature.
Sally Rooney was born in Castlebar in 1991. She studied English at Trinity College, Dublin, and her writing has been featured in The Dublin Review, The Stinging Fly, and Granta. Her best selling novel Conversations with Friends is A sharply intelligent novel about friendship, lust, jealousy, and the unexpected complications of adulthood in the 21st century.
