DATES: Mondays, July – August 2018
Described in the media as a “Tour de Force” and following sell out performances over the past 3 summers, “Patrick” the show will have its final performance of the summer on Monday, August 20th. Produced by Westport Town Hall Theatre, this show charts the course of Patrick’s life through significant events and incorporates choreographed dance and contemporary traditional, folk and gospel music.
It also takes a wry look at some of the legends that make up his legacy and the uniting force that he has been both in the Catholic and Protestant communities here in Ireland and multicultural communities globally. Bespoke multimedia imagery and music is used to enhance the storytelling throughout making for a very emotional experience. Script-writer and performer Declan Askin says audience feedback over the past 3 years has been phenomenal; “It’s not only the many foreign tourists that visit Mayo each year that find “Patrick” to be such an informative and entertaining show – many locals and Irish people that have seen it have said how much they have learned that they hadn’t known about the legendary figure too!”
This production indeed leaves the starring role to the story – written and narrated by Declan Askin along with music composed and performed by Des Cafferkey and Bart De Boer. Heading up the majestic sean nós dancing is award-winning choreographer Liam Scanlon with world champion Ela Kohen-Murray and Aaron Glancy, Ryan Owens and Liam Taylor (pictured above). Each performer adds their own unique style to the performance including a cameo by Beibhinn Askin (pictured below) that transports the audience to a time when emigration helped to create the vast global Irish diaspora we now have.
