DATES: Mondays, July – August 2018
Described in the media as a “Tour de Force” and following sell out performances over the past 3 summers, “Patrick” the show will have its final performance of the summer on Monday 13th and Monday 20th August. Produced by Westport Town Hall Theatre, this show charts the course of Patrick’s life through significant events and incorporates choreographed dance and contemporary traditional, folk and gospel music.
It also takes a wry look at some of the legends that make up his legacy and the uniting force that he has been both in the Catholic and Protestant communities here in Ireland and multicultural communities globally. Bespoke multimedia imagery and music is used to enhance the storytelling throughout making for a very emotional experience. Script-writer and performer Declan Askin says audience feedback over the past 3 years has been phenomenal; “It’s not only the many foreign tourists that visit Mayo each year that find “Patrick” to be such an informative and entertaining show – many locals and Irish people that have seen it have said how much they have learned that they hadn’t known about the legendary figure too!”
This production leaves the starring role to the story – brought to you by Declan Askin, with original music composed and performed by Des Cafferkey and Bart De Boer. Heading up the majestic dancing and rebel-rousing sean-nós is award-winning choreographer Liam Scanlon, tapped off in equal measure by world champion Ela Kohen-Murray with Aaron Glancy and Ryan Owens – each performer displaying their own unique style and place in the performance. One of the most poignant parts of the show is the cameo by young Beibhinn Askin (pictured below) who transports the audience to a time when immigration had the Irish people in its firm grip – all done in the most endearing way with the song “Ellis Island”.
